Charlotte Holt is a multi-disciplinary artist based at DMZ Studios in Manchester, working across sculpture, painting, curating, and writing.
Through Holt's work, the human condition is recognised for it's inconsistent, inane nature.
The value in our relationships to artwork is absorbed through different sensorial elements and the work often invites the viewer to interact through touch or smell. Soft saccharine tones clash with the touch of harsh textures, sweet smells engage with vulnerability in a sickly but inquisitive attraction.
Writings are confessional and sometimes exposing, offering a hesitance to relatability.
A dissonance conflicting the trivial and the childish.
Compositional elements of painting create a set discourse between what can or cannot be controlled, through abstract form, materiality, aesthetic and colour.
Holt’s critical practice aims to open conversations surrounding the critique of traditional gallery display styles. She aims to challenge the curatorial norms of the historic arts institution, usually displaying art in contextually relevant environments. Thus showing the importance that artworks should be situated in consideration to their surroundings.
